The Garden of Healing and Hope

21 Jun, 2016

Delaware County Farm Bureau members recently partnered with Meridian Health Services to start the Garden Of Healing And Hope at the Susan Gresham Center.  Farm Bureau was asked to help with preparing the garden, planting and supplies.  On a rainy Saturday morning along with several volunteers and the help of the Master Gardeners, the garden was planted.  It is to be used by the clients as therapy during their supervised visits at the Center.  The adult unit will also be helping to weed and maintain the garden.  The items that are harvested will be given to the clients to take home and share with their families.  The surplus will be shared with other needy families.  A flower garden was planted by the children.   A quote from Joe Russell says it all ” The cost of the garden and the outcome of harvest of the garden goodies could amount to a small amount of money, the effect of having children digging in the dirt and gardening- priceless”.  We hope to bring much knowledge of how to raise your own food in the urban setting.
